CARGO PANTS 2022 TREND!

Move over skinny jeans, it’s time for cargo pants to shine, and it looks like the fashion world agrees.

Cargo pants have become one of the newest pant trends for 2022 and I could not be more ready to switch things up. I’m all about those cute denim alternatives, especially after learning how much water is needed to produce one pair of jeans (it’s 7,500 litres by the way) and it looks like we can finally ditch denim for more lightweight fabrics. Baggy pants were all over the runways for Spring Summer 2022, and ‘relaxed pants’ was definitely the collective theme.

I always loved a utility look so I am thrilled to see cargo pants are in style this season and I know I’ll be incorporating more of them into my wardrobe as we move towards warmer weather. I also love the comfiness of baggy pants but know how unflattering they can quickly become if not worn correctly so to help you achieve that super chic outfit you are after, here are some personal styling tips and a breakdown of my thought process when putting together this outfit.

MY LATEST OOTD’S

HOW TO STYLE CARGO PANTS

When I was shopping for a cargo pant I wanted something high waisted and wide leg to make me look tall (I’m 5’4) and slender. Thankfully, the majority of styles I was seeing online varied between wide leg pants and jogger.

WIDE LEG CARGO PANTS VS JOGGER CARGO PANTS

As a rule of thumb, wide leg pants generally give you a slender appearance where joggers will accentuate your bodies natural curves. If you want to show off those curves, jogger cargo pants are the way to go, otherwise a wide leg creates straight lines which can help you achieve a more slender figure.

When styling this outfit I knew pairing my new cargo pants with a crop top and heels always helped make my legs look longer and give me a taller, slender appearance so I opted in for a neutral PVC sandal and an Artizia vest I recently bought with built in shoulder pads. I tucked my new vest into my bra to make it appear cropped and instantly, the wide shoulders created this upside down triangle shape that drew attention to my now visible waist and made it look smaller.

To break up the outfits monotone colour palette I added brown accessories with matching colour hardware which complimented the outfit beautifully. Considering the pants fit great around my thighs but lose around my waist, utilizing a belt help me create a ‘paper bag’ waist effect that accentuated its tiny appearance as well as helped hold my pants up!

When it comes to alternative top options, a simple t-shirt can also work great with cargo pants as well as tucked in poplin blouses and cropped sweaters. If you want to go for a more casual look, swap in a chunky sneakers and you’re there. The possibilities are endless when it comes to cargo pants really, as long as they are relaxed and roomie.
